Coaching Research Minute – SWB and Our Physiology

Does an individual’s Subjective Well-being (SWB) impact their physiological functioning? This research study by Lauren Kuykendall and Louis Tay demonstrates a clear linkage between the two in the context of work.

As a Certified Wellness Coach, you’ll certainly be integrated discussions about work and careers with your clients. Whether you’re officially involved in providing an actual employee wellness program or simply including this critical component in your coaching, it’s an important area of note.  Take a look at Figure 1  to get a quick look at the overall model of SWB and it’s impact on physiological functioning.

The next time one of your coaching clients says something about thinking “it’s all in my head,” now you have data to show them they’re right – and that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
