Coaching Research Minute – Presenteeism

Are you familiar with Presenteeism? It occurs when someone is “at work” but not really contributing significantly (sitting in the seat but not getting much done). Here’s the abstract to a study identifying some of the key factors tied to high (which is bad) presenteeism:  https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22856386

When you dig in further to the study, you’ll learn that presenteeism is significantly increased in smokers (28%), which likely isn’t a surprise. However, it’s intriguing to learn that eating an unhealthy diet increased presenteeism even more (66%) and lack of exercise drove a 50% increase in presenteeism!

As someone who’s been through an accredited wellness coach training, you know how to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals. But the data in this study shows you’re also having a significant impact on the bottom line of the organizations you serve.
